What Others Won't Say
Democrats

Thane Rosenbaum

In his second installment of ‘What Others Won’t Say,’ firebrand Essayist, Novelist, and Law Professor Thane Rosenbaum takes on the Democrats. The three minute segment is a bite, wink and smirk—and not a rant.  Three minutes to bring out one or two smiles and a little head spin to the delight of JTVC fans.

Learn more about Thane Rosenbaum at https://www.jewishtvchannel.com/thanerosenbaum/. What Others Won't Say
Whatever Happened to Chutzpah?

Thane Rosenbaum

Firebrand Essayist, Novelist, and Law Professor Thane Rosenbaum launches a new editorial opinion show this month. ‘What Others Won’t Say’ launched April 1st to rave reviews.  The three minute segment is a bite, wink and smirk—and not a rant.  Three minutes to bring out one or two smiles and a little head spin. At least one head spin came from YouTube, who banned it within 24 hours, yet wisely at least partially reinstated it after numerous appeals. The irony of an OpEd about Jews being told to sit down and shut up being itself censored and shut down was not lost on JTVC fans.

Catch ‘What Others Won’t Say’ and learn more about Thane Rosenbaum at https://www.jewishtvchannel.com/thanerosenbaum/.

Heroes can be about people leading ordinary lives faced with challenging situations. It is often about someone who serves a community with absolute devotion and dedication that we sometimes err in taking him or her for granted. And, it is also about those who have faced a dangerous predicament, while serving our best interests.

Jews And Sports

Judaism in antiquity presented a mixed approach to the question of pursuing sports. The story of Chanukah enlightens Jews as to the world of Hellenism, which included young men being encouraged to engage in worship of the human form;  manifest in the Olympics, dedicated to serving a pantheon of idols. The Maccabees rejected all forms of idolatry and eventually evicted the ancient Greeks from the Holy Land, but the quest for following the pursuit of athletic prowess, initiated by the Hellenistic Greeks, proved to be a greater challenge for future Jews.

Conversely, the constant external threats against Jews continuously necessitated the need for Jews of all ages to be at a peak of fitness and battle readiness. In a more humorous light we hear the story of fellow Jews racing each other to perform the right of various tasks in the temple service of Jerusalem. Accordingly, a competitive spirit accompanied all types of missions demanding physical fitness. As the Jews were forced into exile and dispersed among the nations, the question presented itself once more as to the purpose behind engaging in physical activities of a competitive nature. Shimon ben Lakish was a prime example of a Jew struggling with the dichotomy of being a competitive sportsman in the Diaspora, while reconciling his physical accomplishments with the spiritual service of Judaism. Stories abound of how as a victorious gladiator in Rome, he would witness the death of Jews for the sake of notifying the widow, so she would be free to remarry. He later forsook the Roman games to become a leading rabbi.

Fast forward to our own time period and a vastly different picture emerges. Although Jews have been coerced into serving nations with a strong brand of hedonism and even antisemitism in the mix, in general most have proven themselves as perfect examples in the world of sports, for younger competitors to follow. Jewish communities worldwide take pride in the accomplishments of local Jewish heroes, especially those participating in their sporting activity by representing their nations in an international environment. Jewish TV Channel will shortly be opening a new station that will include a wide array of entertaining sporting events, but always mindful of our collective Jewish roots.

Erich Von Stroheim

Erich Oswald Hans Carl Maria von Stroheim (born Erich Oswald Stroheim; September 22, 1885 to May 12, 1957) was an Austrian-American director, screenwriter, actor, and producer, most noted as a film star and avant-garde, visionary director of the silent era. His 1924 film Greed (an adaptation of Frank Norris’s 1899 novel McTeague) is considered one of the finest and most important films ever made. After clashes with Hollywood studio bosses over budget and workers’ rights problems, Stroheim found it difficult to find work as a director and subsequently became a well-respected character actor, particularly in French cinema.

For his early innovations as a director, Stroheim is still celebrated as one of the first of the auteur directors. He helped introduce more sophisticated plots and nourish sexual and psychological undercurrents into cinema. He died of prostate cancer in France in 1957, at the age of 71. Beloved by Parisian neo-Surrealists known as Lettrists, he was honored by Lettrist Maurice Lemaître with a 70-minute 1979 film titled Erich von Stroheim.

STARS OF YESTERYEAR

Jewish Evolution of the Theatre

In our contemporary society it is easy to imagine that we created a diverse and colorful sub-culture by ourselves. Total Vision will not only destroy this myth, but also introduce you to the amazing world of Jewish entertainers that literally rocked the foundation of their civilized environment. We are talking about the vaudeville beauty that rode apparently in the nude in front of a large family audience. Then there’s the talented female actress that openly had bisexual relations, with her husbands’ knowledge. Have you heard of the Sewing Circle? I guess not, but this same star founded a luxurious refuge for other lesbians. Surely, this must be in our own time period? Not even close!

Take a front seat as JTVC presents some of the earliest known stars of the theatre, dating from the end of the nineteenth century, that’s well over a hundred years ago.

United Kingdom's Diverse Jewish Communities Pt 1.
FROM A JEW'S VIEW

The first recorded Jewish community in Britain was brought to England in 1070 by King William the Conqueror, who believed that what he assumed to be its commercial skills would make his newly won country more prosperous. At the end of the 12th century, a series of blood libels and fatal pogroms hit England, particularly the east coast. Notably, on 16 March 1190, in the run up to the Third Crusade, the Jewish population of York was massacred at the site where Clifford’s Tower now stands, and King Edward I of England passed the Statute of the Jewry (Statutum de Judaismo) in 1275, restricting the community’s activities, most notably outlawing the practice of usury (charging interest). When, 15 years later, Edward found that many of these provisions were ignored, he expelled the Jews from England.

They emigrated to countries such as Poland which protected them by law. A small English community persisted in hiding despite the expulsion. Jews were not banned from Scotland, which until 1707 was an independent kingdom; however, there is no record of a Jewish presence in Scotland before the 18th century. Jews were also not banned in Wales at the time, but Wales was eventually annexed to England under Henry VIII, at which point the ban extended to Wales, also. There is only one known record of a Jew in Wales between 1290 and the annexation, but it is possible individuals did persist there beyond 1290.

Jewish TV Channel presents a look at the current state of the Jewish community in the United Kingdom, and how they have weathered the storm of the first Jews to live there, to become the thriving community that exists today.
