The Last Major Ukrainian City Is Under Control Of Pro-Russian Forces

Pro-Russian forces say that they have entered the city of Lysychansk, the last major city still held by Ukrainian forces in Luhansk Oblast, and that street-to-street fighting is underway.

Lysychansk is a city in the Sievierodonetsk Raion of the Luhansk Oblast of Ukraine. Prior to 2020, it was incorporated as a city of oblast significance. It is located on the high right bank of the Siverskyi Donets River, it faces Sievierodonetsk across the river. Russian separatist forces in Donets Basin are militias and armed volunteer groups affiliated with the Russian-recognized pro-Russian breakaway regions in the Donbas region of Ukraine: the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR).
According to Ukraine’s northern military, almost 20 rockets fired in Ukraine from the territory of Belarus and targeted the village of Desna in the northern Chernigiv region. Ukraine reported attack from Belarus, fighting in Lysychansk. Russian Forces are fighting to capture Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region. Russian forces are taking control to most of the strategic Ukrainian city of Severodonetsk and are heavily shelling the twin city of Lysychansk, causing major destruction, the governor of Luhansk region told.
Russian artillery fire destroyed swathes of infrastructure and homes in the broader Donbas and Russian forces has started street battles in many cities, towns and villages in the eastern Luhansk region.
