Several opposition politicians are arrested in Fort Colombo, Sri Lanka, after demanding the resignation of PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, who yesterday said that the country is “bankrupt”.

Sri Lanka’s former opposition parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra and former Weligama Urban Council Chairman Rehan Jayawickreme have been arrested along with seven others outside the president’s official residence in Fort Colombo on 5th July,2022. Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said four women including Premachandra and five men were taken into custody on Wednesday July 06 around noon, though he could not confirm the arrest of Jayawickreme.
