The mayor of Sieverodonetsk announces that Russian forces have “fully occupied” the city.
The Russo-Ukrainian War is an ongoing war between Russia (together with pro-Russian separatist forces) and Ukraine. Sievierodonetsk is a city in the Luhansk Oblast of Ukraine, located to the northeast of the left bank of the Siverskyi Donets river.
On Friday, Ukraine had withdrawn its troops from the city to prevent encirclement by Russian soldiers and to defend another neighbouring city of Lysychansk. Before the start of the war, there were around 100,000 people living in the city. However, recently almost 10,000 people were left in Severodonetsk. People are also evacuating the Azot chemical plant. Thousands of people have already taken shelter inside the chemical plant. They have spent almost three months of their lives in basements, shelters. The mayor of Sievierodonetsk confirmed that Russian forces had fully occupied the frontline city in eastern Ukraine after several weeks of fighting and bombardment. Severodonetsk was a key industrial city in Luhansk in eastern Ukraine that was fully occupied by Russian force on Saturday, 25th June,2022.
