An Israeli air strike on Aleppo International Airport put it out of service early Monday, Syrian state media reported.

“At about 4:30 a.m. today, the Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Latakia, targeting Aleppo International Airport,” a military source told the Syrian Arab News Agency, adding that the strike damaged the runway.

No casualties were reported.

Ynet cited a Saudi network as reporting hours after the attack that Israel had destroyed an “Iranian military shipment containing sensitive equipment.”

Alleged Israeli strikes on the airport serving the northern Syrian city have occurred multiple times since the start of the year, including an attack in May that reportedly killed a Syrian soldier and forced the airport’s closure and two attacks in March that also put it out of service.

Israel most recently struck several targets in the Damascus area in late August, wounding a Syrian soldier and causing material damage, Syrian state media reported.

Israel has allegedly struck hundreds of targets in Syria in recent years as part of an effort to prevent Iranian military entrenchment in the country. However, it rarely acknowledges these incidents.
