Russia becomes China’s biggest supplier of oil, surpassing Saudi Arabia and making up over half of its neighbor’s oil imports.
China is importing record levels of Russian oil, via seaborne shipments and the east Siberia Pacific pipeline. According to Chinese general administration’s data on Monday, imports of Russian oil, including supplies pumped through the east Siberia Pacific pipeline and seaborne shipments, totaled around 8.42m tones.
China’s crude oil imports from Russia soared by 55% from a year earlier to a record level in the month of May,2022, and Russia displaced Saudi Arabia as the top supplier. China became Russia’s biggest market for crude oil since 2016 and has not publicly condemned Moscow’s war in Ukraine. Instead, China has exacted economic gains from its isolated neighboring countries.
